Snowboarding and Skiing with family and friends at Breck 2016.
Just thought I would share a few photos of the place that we are staying in Winter Park on the Church Ski trip. We got a little bit of an upgrade. The place is incredible and really a dream house. Just check out the photos and see for yourself.
|Winter Park Ski Trip 2008|
It has been a little while since my last post. We spent most of Kristee’s Christmas break in Wichita and we also went to Colorado to do a little snowboarding. We had a really good time minus me spraining my ankle on the 3rd run of the 1st day. So it didn’t turn out to be my dream snowboarding trip that I was hoping for. Oh well I am still limpin around a little bit and it still is quite sore. We also wanted to give Halee the chance to take ski lessons and everything was going great right up till the point in which the ski instructor came over and tried to take her back to the room with all the other kids. We tried and tried to get her to go, but it just wasn’t going to happen. She said that she would go when she was 4. (We will see, she might go if Gavin goes and I have a good feeling that Gavin will go.) Kristee’s parents went with us and we were there over Christmas which was kind of different being away from home over Christmas.
Kristee has actually had a longer Christmas break this year over last year, she doesn’t go back till next Wednesday where last year she had already been in school for a few days by now. She has really enjoyed the extended break to relax and we have enjoyed having her home during the day for this extra week or so. It is hard to believe that she is headed into her last year of school. We have actually started looking for a place for our future practice and we have pin pointed a specific area in Wichita, but now need to get an exact location and start getting the loans and all that fun stuff. It is a little nerve racking, but kind of exciting all together. Just to think that a year from now we will be back in Wichita starting our practice, it is just crazy. (We also know that 1 year is nothing and it will go by extremely fast, the 1st 2 years have flown by.)
The kids are doing great and it is hard to believe that Halee will be turning 4 in just a couple of weeks. Did you hear that, 4, I just can’t believe that she is already that old. She is becoming quite the little lady. Her personality just cracks me up sometimes. She can at times just seem to old, she really has that motherly instinct with Gavin and her babies. (And she has a lot of babies) She is really helpful around the house (when she wants to be) and she enjoys helping cook. She is just a great joy to be around and a true blessing in my life. She is just growing up way too fast!!
Gavin is also growing up way too fast. He is 2 1/2 and has one of the most incredible little personalities I have seen in a kid his age. He absolutely loves and adores his big sister. he can be so sweet most of the time. He does have his terrible 2 moments, but it really does seem like he is getting close to ending that stage in his life. It is hard to descibe his personality without hearing him talk bacause man can he carry on a conversation with anyone. He really isn’t shy with anyone and will just about strike up a conversation with anyone who pays him any attention. Again I can’t believe that he is going to be turning 3 years old this year. It is amazing at just how much he is growing up. Both kids just bring a smile to my face and they are a blast to have around, most of the time, lol!!!
I hope that everyone is doing well and that everyone has a great 2007!!!
I have added 4 (yes 4) more videos to the website and also added 1 photo album. The 4 videos are of us playing in the snow doing different activities and the photo album is pictures of the kids playing in the snow. One of the videos, Sledding, is of the kids sledding out in the front yard, we have a small hill that drops into our drive way and is the perfect size for the kids to go down. The hill is slightly steeper in person than it appears on the video. Halee was the main one that was going down the hill on the sled, Gavin still just couldn’t hold on to the handles. As you can tell in the video he was kind of limited in his movement of his arms. His first ride on the sled (which wasn’t on the video) he slid of the sled and fell face first in the snow and then that is where the video picks up. The top of the sled was pretty slippery and he just couldn’t quite manage to stay on, but Halee got the hang of it and loved every minute of it. She really didn’t want to stop at all, even though it was a nice warm temperature of 8 degrees F.
The second video is of us playing in the fresh powder in our backyard. We just had fun running around and throwing snow at each other and playing with a few balls in the yard. As you can see in the Playing in the Snow video Gavin didn’t do just a whole lot of moving in the snow at all. I don’t think that he was sure about walking quite yet, but he didn’t want to go inside he was much happier just standing there watching Halee and I play in the snow. I would just move him when Halee and I went somewhere else in the yard to play and then he would just stand there. Then in the 4th video Gavin Walking in the Snow, he finally decided that he wanted to try out walking around in the snow and really had a great time doing it. I didn’t have the big camcorder out there, but did have the digital camera and wanted to get video of him taking his first steps in the snow. The quality isn’t the greatest, but it is video of him walking through the fresh snow. I also took a lot of photos of the kids while they were playing out back and that is what is in the photo album, Snow Dec. 2005.
The other video is of me trying to have a little fun myself,Front Yard Snowboarding. I decided rather than clearing off the stairs, to pack the stairs and make a drop in for my snowboard and then built a little ramp on the other side of the driveway to jump. I had made a bigger ramp, but wasn’t going fast enough off the drop in to really get any distance off the ramp, I would actually stop at the top of the bigger ramp, so I decided to make it smaller. Even though it doesn’t look like much, I still had a really fun time riding my snowboard in the front yard. The day before I actually rode my snowboard from the top of our yard down the hill into the street and then down the street a little ways and that was also a lot of fun. I know that while I was doing it people that drove by would slow down to see what in the world I was doing with a snowboard on in the front yard, but it was a lot of fun. I am sure that some were laughing at me and I am sure that some of you that watch the video and read this will laugh, but you all do have to remember when watching it that I am really just a big kid!!! I hope everyone enjoys watching the videos and I had a lot of fun playing with the kids in the snow. Today I got out the sled and took Gavin out and set him between my legs and we went sledding down the stairs and her really had a blast and kept saying, “More, More!” So he got a chance to really enjoy going sledding like Halee did, I never sent him down on his own he really can’t hold onto the handles quite yet, but maybe next year. We might see Halee flying down the stairs and over the ramp next year on a snowboard or skis!!!
Those subscribed to our video feed will probably already have them downloaded on your computer, they were put on earlier today.
We had an absolute blast on our trip. The kids really had a good time staying at Nana’s and Papa’s house and we hope that they weren’t too big of a hassle. Kristee and I left on Tuesday night at about 10:30 pm and drove all night to get to Breckenridge, we arrived at Idaho Springs at around 5:30 am where we bought our lift tickets for the week. We were able to check in to our hotel early so that made it very nice to be able to change in our room rather than our car. We hit the slopes at around 9 am and I know that we were both tired, but excited to start snowboarding. We headed up the lift and Kristee was pretty nervous about learning how to snowboard again. We actually made it off the lift without any issues and I started to give Kristee her snowboard lesson. She actually started to pick it up decently, but we were just working on going back and forth on either heelside or toeside. I thought she was doing well enough to go up to a little higher green, but that was a mistake because Kristee wasn’t happy at all with the steepness of the green we went to. We got fairly close to the bottom, but she started having problems with her boots and decided to walk down and I went back up and snowboarded for a few more hours before lunch. We stayed at Breckenridge that whole day went out to eat and went to bed fairly early.
The second day was about the same as the first except we had a little accident getting off the lift and Kristee fell and hit her knee pretty hard on the ground. That really made her apprehensive for the rest of the day, but she did learn to do a toeside to heelside turn which really made me proud. After she was done I went back up and hit another part of the mountain that I had not been on before and really had a lot of fun and tried to take a few pictures up top. We went to Arapahoe Basin that afternoon and then went to Keystone for me to do a little night snowboarding. (That was an adventure!) I ended up having to go down a pitch black trail to get back to the lit trails so that I could make it to the bottom. It was fun and I would like to go at night again, but would like to be with someone else besides being by myself.
Kristee’s knee was hurting a little bit the next day, but I convinced her to give it another shot on the last day. We got an early start and made it off the lift with very much success this time which was a very promising sign. We took a few pictures and got on our way. Kristee did an excellent job this time she learned to do turns both from heelside to toeside and toeside to heelside. She only fell twice and made it all the way to the bottom conquering a pretty steep green run. I was so proud of her she did an extremely good job. I went back up for one more run before lunch. At lunch we decided that we would just take a little trip out to Vail so that I could see what it was like to snowboard at Vail. It was about a 25 minute drive and wasn’t that bad and it was very interesting, but the terrain was different than where we were staying. It was fun snowboarding there, but I wasn’t all that impressed with Vail even though it is suppose to be a little more pricey. That was where our snowboarding ended and we went back to Breckenridge to take it easy and relax on our last evening before heading back to Wichita.
We had a blast, but really missed the kids and couldn’t wait to get back to see them. Every kid that we saw up there reminded us of Halee and Gavin and we were excited to get back and spend some time with them. It was a lot of fun watching Kristee learn how to snowboard and I was extremely proud at how well she did and look forward to her getting better and maybe one day get her to go down a blue-black with me on the snowboard.
Only 2 more days till we go to Colorado to go snowboarding. I am so excited about going, we are going to Breckenridge and getting to stay there at the slopes. We will also probably venture over to Keystone to do a little snowboarding. Kristee has decided to take up snowboarding for good, we bought her a snowboard for the trip and I am really excited about it. She has been snowboarding 2 days about 4-5 years ago. It will be interesting to see if she remembers anything or will we be starting over from the beginning. I will love being able to say that my wife snowboards with me. I am sure that she will catch on as long as I am patient with her and really help her learn how to get down the mountain. I don’t think that she will have any problems may be a few falls here and there, but that is what every snowboarder goes through when learning. Needless to say she may have given up skiing for good, as for me a don’t ever see myself going back to skiing, and since she has her own snowboarding equipment it wouldn’t make much since for her to go back. It is soo exciting, Kristee is a snowboarder!!!!
