I saw this on a friend’s status on facebook.
An atheist was seated next to a little girl on an airplane & he turned to her and said, Do you want to talk? Flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passengers. The little girl, who had just started to read her book replied to the total stranger, What do you want to talk about? Oh I dont know he said, how about why there is no God or no Heaven or Hell or no life after d……eath? (as he smiled smugly). OK, she said. Those could be interesting topics, but let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, & a deer all eat the same stuff – grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, but a horse produces clumps. Why do you suppose that is? The man visibly surprised by the little girls intelligence thinks about it & says, hmmm, I have no idea. To which the girl replies, do you really feel qualified to discuss God, Heaven, Hell or life after death when you dont know crap? And then she went back to reading her book.
Gavin again is pretty funny about some of the things he comes up with in different situations. Today I have 2 I would like to share.
On Sunday night we had the youth over for a little Christmas party. We did the type of gift exchange where you can steal a gift from someone if you like it enough. I let Gavin have my number and we were 11 so we had a number of gifts that were opened in front of us including a sponge bob square pants toy binoculars. His eyes got real big and I told him that we could steal that from the person that took it if we wanted to. He looked at me and said with a serious face. “That is not nice to steal from people and God doesn’t want us to steal.” I then told him that it was ok in this situation. He refused to give into such a sin as stealing. Needless to say he didn’t take it, but chose to open another gift.
Yesterday we decided to take the kids to Chucky Cheeses since that had never been there. Now I don’t know if he was serious, but he sure did seem like he was. He kept calling the place we were at Chucky Jesus. We kept on correcting him, but he continued to argue that it was indeed Chuck Jesus and we were all wrong.
He seems to be trying to change things one at a time. I am not joking when I call him a “man of God”, I have never heard such a young kid talk about God as much as he does. He relies on God for everything and realizes that the power is in God’s hands. Anytime someone gets an ouchy or gets sick he lets them know that God will take care of it and He will make them better.
Everynight at about 7:50pm I call to talk to the kids before they go off to bed. Gavin is quite funny I can always tell that he is doing something else or wants to go and do whatever he is thinking about. The converstions are always short and he has even gone as far as getting on the phone an saying “Bye” and that is it.
Tonight was no exception. I was asking about school and dinner and he was answering and then all of the sudden he says “bye”. This time I caught him before hanging up the phone and said that I had no one else to talk to and I wanted to talk to him some more. His reply was “I’ve got to go.” I know 4 year olds are busy and all but I was pretty sure he had nothing if importance. Then he told me that he was going to go and watch tv by himself and then told it would be ok because he will get to see me tomorrow.
After a little bit of convincing he decided to talk to me a little longer. It actually turned out to be the longest conversation I have ever had with him when I call from work. Some of the things that he comes up with just crack me up. I guess in his eyes he is quite the busy guy.
Even though I don’t get to see the kids much during the week, I do get to see what they “leave behind”. It does put a smile on my face, even though much of it is a mess. Today I was making myself a peanut butter and banana sandwich for work and I opened the jar of peanut butter and there was Gavin’s spoon stuck down in the peanut butter covered. I just had to laugh, but it is little things like that, that put a smile on my face and makes me think of what he was doing when he did it, funny stuff!!!
Gavin is getting to go on a field trip with his school tomorrow and go see Vegetales. Kristee is going to get to go and help take the kids in his class, so that will be exciting for her and him. I look forward to hearing about it tomorrow.
