For comparison I found Halee’s 6 month appointment in which she was actually closer to 6 months old.
Height 25.5 inches
Weight 15 lbs. 10 oz.
Unfortunately I couldn’t find Gavin’ Height and Weight. I didn’t start logging them online when they were this young. There is a chance it is somewhere, but I am just not sure where. If I happen to come across it I will post it for comparison. I think she is closer to Gavin’s size if I remember correctly.
Today Gavin accomplished the task of tying his shoe. He did it the first time by himself and was so excited he started yelling, “I did it, I tied my shoe!!!” He came up stairs and showed me how he did it. I couldn’t believe my eyes. He finally got the last part. He has been working on tying his shoes for several weeks now, but would get frustrated on getting the string through the hole for the 2nd loop. We are so proud of him. The video is really cute watcht the whole thing. This is on youtube now and I am toying with switching there since they allow HD. If you want to view the video in high def then you need to click through and go to our youtube channel.
I just realized that it had been almost a year since I last updated the kids height and weight. I decided to also look at their height & weight to see what they look like compared to the Child Growth Chart Percentiles. In 11 months Halee has grown 5.25 inches and has gained 1/2 lb. Gavin has grown 5.75 inches and has gained 5 lbs. Here are the results:
Halee: At 5 years and 10 months:
your child is 45 pounds, and that is
at the 56th percentile for weight.
your child is 49.25 inches, and that is
at greater than the 97th percentile for height.
Gavin: At 4 years and 5 months:
your child is 35.5 pounds, and that is
at the 29th percentile for weight.
your child is 43 inches, and that is
at the 81st percentile for height.
Halee is really tall for her age and it looks like we need to get Gavin gaining some weight (joking). Everything falls into the normal growth range for the kids.
It is really hard to believe that Gavin just turned 4 today. Where has the time gone? It is crazy to think that he is really that old already, I have looked at video of Gavin when we were living up in KC and he was just a baby when we arrived there. It really isn’t that long ago that we started living in Lees Summit. These kids are growing way too fast.
What is interesting about Gavin’s birthday is that it falls right in with Graduation for most of the high schools around here. We have had a number of parties to attend this weekend. (All family) We also had our church graduation ceremonies today. Seeing some of these kids that are now graduating high school really blows my mind. I was fortunate enough to know a number of them back when they were in elementary school and now to see them graduating high school is just too crazy.
For us it is a great reminder to really try to enjoy all that we can with our kids while they are young. It isn’t going to be long before they are to that wonderful age when hanging with your parents isn’t “cool”. Then they are off to college.
On another note Gavin really had an awesome day, I guess I should say week. He had been waiting for his 4th birthday to get here for months. He got to have a party at school with his class, which he really enjoyed. As a matter of fact today he woke up at 6:30 asking if he could open his birthday presents. Trust me he was excited.
He got a full covering Spiderman costume (that he had been dying to get), a braum’s big rig truck, power rangers coloring books, KU clothes, some dinosaurs, a spiderman puzzle, a Wall-e toy, and Optimus Prime transformer. He was so excited about receiving all the gifts. I took some photos that I will post up soon, he was literally bouncing all around the room as he was opening his presents. I plan on getting some photos of him in his full spiderman suit, but today he was wearing it with Cowboy boots. Trust me Spiderman with black cowboy boots is kind of goofy looking. Although I may throw in a few photos of him wearing that also.
I am really so proud of both of our kids and how well they are doing. They are really both getting to be “big” kids now and it is neat to see them maturing each and everyday. They are both learning so much at school and church, I must say that I am an extremely proud dad!
Gavin has really become quite the patience tester. I consider myself to be very patient with most things, but Gavin as of late has really tested it at times. I don’t know what it is, but he still gets in these fussy moods where he just whines about things rather than just telling us. This morning was one of those examples before school. We could do nothing right for him and he just gets frustrated and whines about whatever it may be such as his outfit, what he wanted for breakfast, where he sits for breakfast there just always seems to be something so minor that causes him to start his whining spells. It is not all the time, but enough to drive you nuts.
On a much better note both kids are doing great with school and church. Last week Gavin brought home a friend from school his name was Joe Bob. (He was a stuffed frog.) They have a pretty neat activity that they have the kids do and it involves Joe Bob. Gavin brought home a duffel bag that Joe Bob traveled in along with 5 froggy books and a journal. The whole point of the activity is for the families to welcome Joe Bob into the family for the weekend and include him in activities that we did. In the journal the families write about their weekend with Joe Bob along with posting photos of the different activities with Joe Bob. These are what are in the new photo album.
They are both really enjoying school and making some good friends which is a huge relief for us. We have also had them start going back to choir at church and they are doing wonderful there also. Kristee and I got a chance to go and visit during their choir class last week and got to see some of the different things that they are doing in class. They were learning some songs, but also playing different instruments along with learning how to keep a beat. It was really neat seeing them involved with activities in the kids choir.
We are really excited to see how much they are have learned over the past few months, but it is also nice to see the kids are having fun with all their activities.
