Been Busy!

Well I have been meaning to post to the blog over the past several days because it has been a little while since my last post. Last week my brother was up here for the whole week and then my parents and sister came to visit us about mid-way through the week. It was a blast to have my side of the family up here in Lee’s Summit, dad and my sister hadn’t been up to see our new place yet. My brother actually flew into Wichita and we picked him up there so that we could go to a Maize fall festival where Halee was scheduled to ride the pony in the parade, but couldn’t due to the fact that the pony was not behaving well enough to put her on. (We have a few pics I need to put on the site) Jon was picked up from the airport in Ian’s Lambo, which we are sad to say has been sold. That was Jon’s dream car, but at least he got a chance to drive it before it was sold. After the fall festival Ian, Jon and I set off to Oklahoma for the dunes to do some 4-wheeling, but before that we took Ian’s shifter cart for a spin, it can reach speeds close to 110 mph. We had an absolute blast that weekend, but a little worn out from all the fun. Then we all came back to Lee’s Summit to spend sometime up here before my parents and sister arrived on Thursday.

Mom, Dad and Sarah arrived Thursday morning and I know that they were excited to see the kids and the kids were excited to see them as well. At least I know Halee was, Gavin still isn’t quite sure who people are that he doesn’t get to see on a regular basis. We pretty much just hung out around here and went into Kansas City to visit the Apple store to pick up a new video ipod for my brother and a mac mini for dad and mom. Welcome to the wonderful world of macs, now my parents can do some video conferencing with us and the kids. It is awesome it will allow them to get to see the kids a lot more and the kids will get a chance to see gramps and grammy a little more often. Jon and I have been trying to get them to buy a mac for this purpose, now finally they purchased one, it is so exciting. Kristee’s parents have a mac also and it allows us to really keep in touch with all family members, I would say it is way better than any telephone conversation or email you can do just because it is real time. Anyways back to the visit, dad ended up getting a video ipod also and we spent the weekend converting all our movies of the kids to a format that is playable on the video ipod. We had a wonderful time while they were here and I know the kids thoroughly enjoyed spending time with my side of the family that they don’t get to see just a whole lot of.

I been trying to get ourselves back into routine all week long, it hasn’t been to bad, but just as with coming back from vacation there has been that slight delay to get back into full routine. The main thing is getting the kids into taking their afternoon naps, I found that it is extremely difficult when they don’t get a good solid nap during the day. They are very hard to deal with when it gets closer to bedtime because they are so ready to go to bed, but they fight it. Both Halee and Gavin are getting along great they are having a slight difficult time dealing with the temperature change that is going on. They want to go outside so bad, but usually we had been going outside shortly after breakfast, but now we have to go out during the afternoon. It has been around 37 degrees during the morning and warming up to the mid 50’s during the day. I actually let Halee go out this morning to feel for herself, I thought that might be a way to convince her. She had on short sleeve shirt and shorts with no shoes and it was 38 degrees. Needless to say she did not want to stay out very long at all, it actually worked in convincing her that it wouldn’t be that fun outside with it being that cold. I could tell in watching her that she was really wanting to prove to me that she could handle the cold and really wanted to play out there. I had a good laugh and told her to tell Gavin why we couldn’t play outside in the morning time. We will just have to wait and see if she remembers tomorrow morning.

Coming for A Visit

I am pretty excited my brother Jon is coming up to visit us this Friday and we are all looking forward to having family up here is Kansas City. Actually we are going to have almost my entire family up next week when Mom, Dad, and my sister Sarah drive up next Wednesday. Unfortunately Josh her husband isn’t able to come due to work, but that is alright we’ll get him up here sometime soon. We will have a packed house, but I know that we will all have fun and I know that the kids will really like having them here to stay at our house. I know that they are all excited to come up and see the kids and maybe see Kristee and I for a little while. The good thing is that Kristee is getting all of her test out of the way this week and she won’t have as many to take next week while they are here. We are really excited and look forward to having the family up for the week.

I must say congrats before I go to bed tonight to 2 people. 1st and foremost I would like to congratulate Kristee on finishing her finals and passing all of her classes this past semester, I know that she is extremely excited to be done. Now she can relax for the next several weeks without having to think about studying for her classes. She did very well this semester and I know that is was difficult at times and having a family makes things even harder at times. Anyways, Congrats to my incredible wife for completing another semester and hopefully I can help you to relax during your break.

I also want say Happy Birthday to Dad, I guess technically it was yesterday. Don’t worry I called him yesterday and wished him a happy birthday and this isn’t a late attempt. I hope that he had a good day and enjoyed his birthday. Happy Birthday and We Love You, Gramps!!!

Happy Father’s Day

I just wanted wish all the dad’s out there a Happy Father’s day. Dad I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate all that you have done for me throughout my life, you have definitely had an impact on how to be a wonderful dad to Halee and Gavin. You provided a great role model for me to follow throughout my life. I couldn’t ask for a better father. You have shown me how to be a great man and father and I just wanted to tell you that I appreciate that and that I Love You! (Have fun with the motorcycle.) I also wanted to wish my father in law a wonderful father’s day, ever since I started dating Kristee you have always treated me like your own son and really taken me into your family. I really do enjoy that relationship that we have created over the years. You are also a great influence on how to be a positive role model for my kids.

Trial and Error

One thing that I can relate parenting to is that of an experiment. I feel like we use the technique of trial and error a lot. It amazes me as to how much information is out there about parenting, different ways to solve different problems. There are tons of books out there and the internet has even more information on just about anything a parent might come across in raising their kids. Plus on top of all of that (not to offend any friends and family) there is always suggestions from anyone who has raised a child. One thing that I have realized in raising our children that sometimes there just is not a perfect solution for any given problem. Sometimes what hinders all of the advice you can find online, through books and from family and friends, is what makes a child so special, their own little personalities. Even with as close in age that Halee and Gavin are, they have taken slightly different approaches to solving problems or helping them accomplish some new milestone. That is part of what makes parenting so challenging, but that also adds a element of fun and excitement. First and foremost you really get to know each individual child’s personalities, their likes and dislikes. Second the fulfillment one gets when they figure out how to solve any particular situation. The beauty in that is sometimes, I think, our kids like to throw us a bit of a curve ball. Kristee and I have both found ourselves confused because what worked before doesn’t work now.

I will say that we have gone to books for suggestions, looked information up online, asked relatives and friends for their ideas, but all in all it takes a bit of trial and error to really find out what is going to work for any particular child. Sometimes we have found success with some of the suggestions we have found, but we have needed to tweak it to satisfy each individual. It is incredible to think that God has given each and everyone of us our own personality and that there is no other individual that is exactly identical even in the millions of people that are in the world. Not that there isn’t someone that is very similar, there is no one person that is exactly alike.

I thank God everyday for blessing Kristee and I with two wonderful little personalities. Sometimes I find myself with a huge smile on my face while I am watching Halee and Gavin interact with each other and me. As they get older their personalities just develop more and more and they become their own little individuals. In my opinion, this is what makes parenting so much fun.

Google Search

I just did a google search of josh and kristee, josh kristee, Halee Gavin, Halee and Gavin. I was surprised to see our website at the top of the list. Of course, it is only out of 380 sites, but we were at the top. I was surprised due to the fact that I had done a search earlier on in the first development of the website and it was no where to be seen on google. Plus the fact that Halee and Gavin returned our site second in the list. Since their names are just listed in the website, I was sure it would be that high on the list. I just thought that was pretty cool.

We’re Back!!!

We are finally back home. And what a wonderful feeling to be back home. We both really love visiting family and getting to see everyone along with the kids spending time with their grandparents, aunts and uncles, but there really is no place like home. You can’t beat sleeping in your own bed, the kids sleeping in their own rooms and not having to live out of suitcases. We had a really good time in Mississippi and stayed pretty busy spending time with all of my family. It was great to see everyone and I know that everyone really enjoyed spending time with Halee and Gavin. The kids enjoyed spending time with Grammy and Gramps (my parents), we also celebrated a Gavin’s 1st birthday while we were there and had a wonderful party. Gavin won’t really care, but you can’t beat having 2 parties for one birthday. It is really hard to believe that Gavin is almost a 1 year old, he is getting much better at walking and standing, but what is funny is that he is much better when he is not thinking about what he is doing. The trip home on the airplane was not as smooth as the trip there. Both kids pretty much stayed awake during the entire flight and then fell asleep just as we were getting ready to land. Before coming home we spent sometime with Kristee’s side of the family in Wichita and they enjoyed seeing the kids for just a little while.

I thought that I was going to post while we were gone, but was just to busy and really didn’t spend much time on the computer. Now that were are back at home I will start posting a little more often. Once we get really back into our routine it will be a lot nicer. Today we have pretty much spent all day cleaning and mowing, hopefully we will wrap all that up tomorrow and get to relax the rest of Kristee’s break. Just want to let everyone all our family to know that we had a great time and that we love you all. Once again it is great to be back home!!!

In Mississippi

Well, we are finally here in Mississippi! We arrived here yesterday and we were excited to see everyone. The kids did well flying, Gavin pretty well slept the entire time we were flying which was fine with us. Halee on the other hand was wide awake on both flights, needing to be entertained. The funny thing is that she ended up falling asleep just as we landed here in Mississippi. So she was sound asleep when we walked off the plane to greet everyone. We are having a good time and I am sure that all my family is glad to see both of the kids. [= That was a little message from our little dude Gavin. It is Sunday and we had a good time at church, I am tired so I will probably post a little more after awhile.

1st Entry

I am pretty excited about adding the blog page to our website. It will add another way for us to communicate with all of our friends and family. If you do not know what a blog is, it is anything that anyone person wants it to be. The best way to descibe it is that it is an online journal. I will be using it for many different purposes, but the main purpose as mentioned in the title is to post any accomplishments or milestones that Halee & Gavin achieve. I want to encourage people who view any of the post to make comments about the post or post comments about what is going on in your lives so that we can keep up with everyone. I will try my best to post to the blog on a regular basis. Also on the page I will have links to things that interest me or other friends websites or blogs, if you have a website or blog please let me know and I will create a link to your page. Hope to hear from you soon!

Talk to you later
